“Deep focused relaxation with heightened awareness"
Far from being a magic or mystical state, hypnosis is a natural phenomenon that occurs in all of us spontaneously each day. In fact you have experienced hypnosis at least once today already, and you will experience it at least once more and didn’t even know it. The first time was as you woke up this morning, that half awake, half asleep feeling. The other time will be tonight as you drift off to sleep.

Having said that, don’t make the mistake of thinking that hypnosis is like sleep; far from it. While we experience the hypnotic state our senses and awareness become heightened, in fact your sense of hearing, smell and touch are sharper than someone who wasn’t experiencing hypnosis.

Very often when someone listens to a hypnotic recording they find themselves reaching out half way through to turn the volume down. It seems to have got louder, when in fact their hearing on the left and right side has balanced out, resulting in the change to their hearing.

Why do we use hypnosis?

While hypnosis on its own will do very little other than make you very relaxed it is a wonderful tool to help you in your therapy.

Hypnosis makes it easier for us to talk to the unconscious part of our mind helping us to give suggestions re-programming our behaviour pattern (Suggestion Therapy). It also helps us to recall experiences we have had and in particular the emotions we felt at the time; making it useful in Analytical Therapy.

How will you be hypnotised?

Don’t worry; I don’t use any swinging watches or flashing lights! All I do is ask you to sit in a comfortable chair and talk you into hypnosis by asking you to imagine various things and encouraging you to feel calm and relaxed. That’s all it takes, there really is nothing to worry about, and in fact I’m willing to bet you will enjoy it. Most people comment that they haven’t been that relaxed in years.

What does hypnosis feel like?

There is no such thing as a hypnotised feeling, but you do feel relaxed. A calm feeling; a bit like feeling relaxed inside. You remember everything I say to you, and hear everything. While you feel very relaxed at the same time it all feels very ordinary.

There really is no need to worry about being made to do something you don’t want to do. It doesn’t work like that! If someone was to suggest that you were to do something you didn’t want to you would be shocked out of hypnosis and not do it! Simple as that.
